PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for compensating a jitter of an image signal is provided to substantially reappear a color signal using a low-capacitance memory without lowering resolution of a luminance signal. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for compensating a jitter of an image signal comprises a digital decoder(500) for demodulating an image signal applied from an outside, a phase locked loop(510) for generating a first clock signal synchronized with the image signal, an address generator for comparing a luminance writing address responding to the first clock signal with a luminance reading address responding to a second clock signal and compensating an address of a luminance signal, a first interactive memory device(564) for storing the luminance signal in the luminance writing address responding to the first clock signal and outputting the luminance signal stored in the luminance read address responding to the second clock signal, a color signal address generator comparing a color signal writing address and with a color signal reading address and compensating an address of the color signal, and a second interactive memory device(566) for storing the color signal in the color signal writing address responding to the second clock signal and outputting the color signal stored in the color signal read address responding to the second clock signal.
