PURPOSE: A method for preparing a porous ceramic is provided, therefore a new porous ceramic having improved properties such as porosity, absorptivity, cationic exchange function and the like is produced with low cost. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises steps of: (i) adding 5-50 parts by weight of bentonite or clay to 100 parts by weight of a mixture of 20-80 wt.% of diatomite, zeolite having a particle size of not more than 150 micrometers or mixtures the same with 20-80 wt.% of glass powder having a particle size of not more than 100 micrometers; and (ii) heat-treating the mixture of step (i) at a temperature of about 750-850°C.
