PURPOSE: An oil separator is provided to achieve an improved effectiveness of heat exchange and reduced noise and size. CONSTITUTION: An oil separator comprises an oil separation cylinder(1) having at an interior of a lower end thereof an oil storage chamber(16), an oil outlet(15) arranged at a center of the lower end of the cylinder in such a manner as to be connected to a capillary tube(4), the oil separation cylinder having at both sides of a lid(12) a refrigerant inlet pipe(2) and a refrigerant outlet pipe(3); an inlet mesh(5) having a top portion coupled to a lower end of the refrigerant inlet pipe within the oil separation cylinder, and a baffle(6) selected from a group consisting of one which is extended downward from the lid so as to shut off the inlet mesh from a lower extended portion of the refrigerant outlet pipe and guide the refrigerant flow in U-shape and which has an upwardly retracted lower center, one which has a lower end protruded downwardly in arc-shape, one which is corrugated by alternating groove portions and protruded portions in lengthwise direction, one which is shaped as a pectination by having groove portions and protruded portions alternating slantly from a vertical center toward both ends thereof, one which has a lower end thereof bent toward the inlet mesh, and one which has at a lower end portion thereof a plurality of penetrating holes.
