The operator includes a main body (18, Fig. 1), a control actuator (26, Fig. 1), and a retainer 36. The control actuator includes a push button (28, Fig. 1) which is movable between an undepressed and a depressed position by a user to change the latch system from a latched to an unlatched state. In use, the retainer is press fitted into an assembled position (Fig. 7) on the main body and held thereat by the engagement of a shoulder 128 (Fig. 6) on the main body which faces and abuts with a shoulder 120 (Fig. 6) on the retainer when the retainer is moved from a first position (Fig. 6) into the assembled position. The retainer shoulder 120 (Fig. 6) includes a deformable finger 112 which is deflected inwards as cooperating surfaces 118, 124 (Fig. 6) on the main body and retainer guide each against the other as the retainer is moved from the first to the assembled position. The retainer may be replaced by another retainer which differs in either appearance, shape or material.
