PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to embody colors without a color filter. CONSTITUTION: In a liquid crystal display(LCD) and a manufacturing method thereof, the LCD includes a front plate, a photopolymer layer on the front plate, a front electrode on the photopolymer layer, and an oriented layer(14a) on the front electrode. A back oriented layer has an interval with the front oriented layer, and a back electrode is formed below the oriented layer. Under the back electrode, a back plate is installed. A margin of the front plate and the back plate is sealed up with a sealing material. A liquid crystal layer is inserted in a space between two oriented layer. Each tops of the front plate and the back plate has a polarizing plate. A manufacturing method of the LCD element is as follows. First, prepare two glass plates washed for the front plate and the back plate(S 31). Design a proper reflective index required to embody a desirous color, considering a relation with a reflective index of liquid crystal. Make a photopolymer layer on a plate for the front plate(S32). Divide the photopolymer layer into a plurality of areas corresponding to pixels of each color tone, and masking the areas except an area corresponding a pixel of a color tone using a photo mask. The predetermined area excepted is exposed to an ultraviolet ray having a polarizing element of a predetermined direction, in order to have the proper reflective index(S33). Detect all the areas in the same way to have the proper reflective index(S34)(S35).
