<p>A magnetoelastic material (16) is wrapped around a longitudinal shaft (12), to which torque (T) is applied. The magnetoelastic material produces a magnetic field in response to the torque. A magnet (28), next to the shaft, is driven into magnetic saturation by an AC source (34). The saturation condition is responsive to the magnetoelastic material. An independent claim is included for a method of measuring the torque, by driving the system repeatedly into magnetic saturation.</p> |
