A tripod stand comprises mounting (11), telescopic legs (15) pivotally attached to mounting (11) hub (14) and column (18) extending axially from hub (14) between legs (15). Collar (19) is slidably located on column (18) having spreader arms (20) pivotally connected thereto and to the upper members of the legs to control their spread. Detent means (26, 29, 31 Fig 2) locate the collar in positions along column (18) to lock legs (15) in different positions of spread. A selectively operable indexing mechanism (102 to 112 Fig 13), in one mode permits a partial rotation of the column to disengage the collar detent means for movement of the collar along the column to erect or collapse the tripod, and in another mode permits rotation of the column with respect to the hub between defined positions in which the detent means on the collar are engageable with the column at different positions along the column for supporting the tripod legs in different angles of spread. |
