PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a hydroxyalkyl (meth)acrylate containing a primary hydroxyl group as a main reaction product in a reaction between an epoxy compound (A) and (meth)acrylic acid (B). SOLUTION: An epoxy compound (A) is reacted with (meth)acrylic acid (B) in the presence of an alkaline earth metal salt (C) or an alkaline earth metal oxide (D) and the epoxy group is (meth)acrylated to give a hydroxy group-containing (meth)acrylate. Magnesium hydroxide, magnesium acetate, magnesium (meth)acrylate or magnesium chloride is used as the alkaline earth metal salt (C).
