PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To confirm that an own vehicle runs in a correct direction even without convenience stores or the like facilities as landmarks by forming an image of a starlit sky estimated to be seen at a position of the vehicle on the basis of the position of the vehicle, an advance direction, the present date and time, and starlit sky information, and using the image for a background of a guide image. SOLUTION: A microcomputer 1 of the navigation system forms a guide image corresponding to a scene seen over a windshield at present based on a position and an advance direction of an own vehicle and map data in the same manner as a normal navigation system. Thereafter, the position and advance direction of the own vehicle, time data and starlit sky data (locus data of each star) are inputted from each sensor and a CD-ROM 7. A starlit image seen in the advance direction is formed with the use of the inputted data. An image superposed with the guide image so that the starlit sky image becomes a background is displayed to a display 9b. A user can judge without convenience stores or the like as landmarks whether or not the own vehicle advances in a correct direction by comparing an actually seen starlit sky with the starlit sky image. |
