PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To highly accurately measure from a distant place a flatness of a valve seat surface of a valve gear at a place where people cannot enter by setting a displacement gage which is moved back and forth in parallel to an axis of a rotary shaft by a pushing-out device set to the rotary shaft fitted to a base plate, thereby detecting a displacement of the valve bearing surface, and an encoder for detecting a rotation position of the rotary shaft. SOLUTION: When a base plate 16 is placed on a flange face 12, the base plate 16 is fixed at three points to an inner face of a housing 5 and a flatness- measuring device 101 is accurately fixed to the housing 5. A pushing device 22 is driven to press a tip end of a displacement gage 23 in contact with a valve seat surface 8 or bring the displacement gage 23 to a position close to the valve seat face 8. When a driving motor 27 is driven to rotate a rotary shaft 20, the displacement gage 23 rotates along the valve seat surface 8, and a flatness of the valve seat surface 8 is measured, e.g. in the unit of oneμm. At this time, since a rotation position is detected by an encoder 31 set to a rotary shaft 30, a position in a circumferential direction of the flatness measured by the displacement gage 23 can be detected at the same time.
