PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device such as an HMD, capable of displaying easy-to-see images irrespective of the brightness of the external environment. SOLUTION: In a head mount display device(HMD), a mode selection menu is displayed on a screen (S13) by opening a mode selection switch to that an indoor use mode and an outdoor use mode are made selectable (S15), and in the outdoor use mode, a display is increased in brightness, contrast, contour emphasis, etc., and also the setting values are stored (S18). Moreover, this HMD device is arranged so as to automatically set the brightness, contrast, contour emphasis, etc., of a display by detecting external light by a light quantity detecting element.
