PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve contrast and symmetry of a viewing angle of a plasma addressed liquid crystal(PALC) display panel. SOLUTION: A volume element of a liquid crystal material is provided between region elements of a first and a second alignment layers 54, 58 in each modulation cell of a PALC liquid crystal polarized light modulation structural body. An region element of each of the alignment layers is composed of a first and a second regions 50A, 50B. The direction of friction for the respective first regions of the first and the second alignment layers 54, 58 are defined as the first and the second directions and the directions of friction of the respective second regions of the first, and the second alignment layers 54, 58 are defined as the third and the fourth directions. Either of the first and the second directions of friction is in parallel with a channel, either of the third and the fourth directions of friction is set in reverse with respect to the first direction of friction and the other of the third and the fourth directions of friction is set in reverse with respect to the second direction of friction.
