PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which the clearance between paired discoid rotary cutting tools can be measured by using a simple inexpensive instrument without requiring skillfulness. SOLUTION: In a method for measuring the clearance S between paired rotary cutting tools 1 and 2 which are respectively driven and rotated by means of parallel shafts 11 and 21, a laser beam projected from a laser beam projector 3 perpendicularly to the shafts 11 and 21 is passed through the space between the cutting tools 1 and 2 and received by means of a laser beam receiving device 5, and the clearance between the tools 1 and 2 is calculated by measuring the quantity of the received light.
