PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee the reliability of a data recording by making a second spare region to be expandable in terms of an ECC block unit in the direction, in which physical sector numbers become smaller, and providing a region, which records positional information indicating the location of the second spare region, to a defect control information region. SOLUTION: A volume space 100a of an information recording medium is constituted so that a second spare region 108, which includes a spare sector to replace a defective sector, is additionally arranged. When all sapce sector included in a first spare region 102, that is beforehand prepared by the replacement process of a defective sector, are consumed, a portion of the space 100a is set to the region 108. By additionally arranging the region 108 in terms of the ECC block unit, defect free of an optical disk is guaranteed even though the number of defective sectors being generated exceeds an expected number.
