<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide distance data that are close to an actual intervehicular distance with little difference, even if the intervehicular distance varies, particularly at start and stop. SOLUTION: This data processing method obtains data about the distance between a forward vehicle and a following vehicle on the basis of the reflected wave of a laser beam emitted toward the rear of the forward vehicle from an emitter provided on the following vehicle performing follow-up travel, and subjects the distance data to filtering process. The filtering process varies a digital filter coefficient so that a filter time constant when the following vehicle travels at vehicle speeds not greater than a predetermined value becomes greater than a filter time constant when the following vehicle travels at vehicle speeds exceeding the predetermined value (STEP 4 to 7).</p> |
