PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To readily and surely attach a scale for a linear encoder to a predetermined position in a printer such that the scale is suspended thereto and to prevent the scale from being taken off in the attaching condition without generating unexpected vibration in terms of the attachment structure of the scale for the linear encoder. SOLUTION: In this attachment structure, one end of a scale 6 made of a band type sheet is stopped to a body of a printer and a scale holder 10 for stopping the other end of the scale 6 is attached to long holes 20A, 20B provided to a plate type frame 5. A nipping section 14 provided to the scale holder 10 is inserted into a nipping section attaching/detaching hole 23. Edges 25, 25 are nipped with the nipping section 14 and a frame face sliding section 15 in the attaching condition and abutted to the frame face, then the scale holder 10 is positioned on a surface of the scale 6. A stopping position of a scale stopping section 12 is set such that the scale 6 is parallel to the frame 5 and the scale holder 10 is urged by a tension coil spring 30 in the pulling direction with respect to the scale 6.
