PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To guarantee the reliability of a data recording by providing a region to record first and second information indicating whether a defect control information region has a replacement region including spare sectors usable for first and second spare regions or not. SOLUTION: A volume space 100a of an information recording medium is constituted so that a second spare region 108, which includes a spare sector to replace a defective sector, is additionally arranged. When all spare sectors included in a first spare region 102, that is beforehand prepared by a replacement process of a defective sector, are consumed, a portion of the space 100a is set into the region 108. By additionally arranging the region 108 as requried, defect free of an optical disk is guaranteed even though the number of defective sectors being generated exceeds an expected number.
