PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a catalyst carrier from being subjected to concentrated load caused by deflection of a support mat resulted from tightening a metal plate, when constituting an exhaust gas converter by wrapping the support mat around outer periphery surface of the catalyst carrier and by wrapping the roll metal plate around outer periphery surface of the support mat. SOLUTION: Relief means for releasing deflection of a support mat 2 is provided for either one of or both of a case 3 and the support mat 2 wrapping around outer periphery surface of a catalyst carrier 1. The relief means consists of a recessed portion formed at an edge portion 3a of the case 3, a plurality of clearances formed by forming the support mat 2 in crank-shape, and a gap formed in a lapped portion 4, where an edge portions 3a and 3b of the case 3 overlap.
