PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize a device by means of reducing dictionary memory storing dictionary data and sharing it by permitting plural character recognition parts to request the required dictionary data for a dictionary data transfer control part, and permitting the dictionary data transfer control part to read a head address and a transfer size for reading the dictionary memory from an internal management table. SOLUTION: Character recognition parts 60 and 61 request a required recognition dictionary and a dictionary ID number to a dictionary data transfer control part 70 from the feature of a character pattern. The dictionary data transfer control part 70 receiving a request controls a system to obtain a dictionary address of a part equivalent to the requested dictionary ID number and to sequentially read dictionary data for the transfer size stored in a dictionary memory 80. A table for calculating a dictionary head reading address, corresponding to the dictionary ID number and the transfer size, is prepared corresponding to the address and transfer size of the memory 80 and a position and the transfer size of dictionary data, which are stored in the dictionary memory 80, are calculated.
