摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain satisfactory light-diffusing performance and a good contrast ratio by forming a passing region, where incident collimated light mainly passes and a non-passing region having relatively low light-transmission property and applying the both materials for these regions at a time. SOLUTION: An optical diffusion plate 16a is produced by fixing light- transmitting spheres (beads) 20, which constitute a diffusing layer with a light- absorbing binder 22 to a light-transmission supporting sheet 18. The collimated light emitted from a backlight part and passing a liquid crystal panel 12 to carry an image is refracted (diffused) by the spheric beads 20, passes through the contact area between the beads 20 and the supporting sheet 18 and near this area (contact part) which is the passing region for light, and is diffused sufficiently. Since a binder 22 has light-absorbing property, the non-passing region except for the contact part of the beads 20 and the supporting sheet 18 acts as a black mask. Thus, the external light from the observer's side is not reflected or diffused by the optical diffusion plate 16, and there is no decrease in contrast.
