PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an electronic camera whose durability and reliability are improved by preventing the damage or breakage of an optical head and also preventing the deterioration of printing image quality caused by the soiling of the optical head. SOLUTION: When a back cover 51 is operated to be opened so that a printing cartridge 38 may be attached to a cartridge housing part 64, the optical head 33 is moved to a retreat position and a shutter 80 is closed to cover over the optical head 33. Meanwhile, when the cover 51 is operated to be closed so that the cartridge 38 may be taken out from a cartridge housing part 64, a shutter 80 covering over the optical head 33 is opened and the optical head 33 is moved to a light emitting operation position to expose printing paper 40.
