PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To arbitrarily modulate a plurality of optical beams as a whole by modulating a plurality of optical beams into a desired state by means of an optical element, including refractive index variable substance that a refractive index is changed by means of electrical control and transparent substance that the refractive index is fixed. SOLUTION: An optical element A and an optical beam generating means B are arranged in an optical modulating device C. Then a refractive index variable substance 2 and transparent substance 3 are pinched between transparent electrodes 1. Transparent substance is provided with a periodic structure. A voltage with arbitrary frequency and amplitude can be impressed between the transparent electrodes 1 by an inter-electrode electrical characteristic control means 4. In addition, when the voltage is impressed between the electrodes 1 by the means 4, the refractive index of the substance 2 is changed. Therefore, an optical modulating device works as a modulator by combining the optical strength modulation of the means B by a control means 7, which is operated while a synchronization means obtains synchronization with the means 4 in addition to the function. |
