PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stop a paper sheet separating device and to eliminate paper sheets and the paper sheet separating device from being damaged by detecting a presser force acting on a loading table in deliverring paper sheets and stopping a delivery belt, when the presser force becomes some extent or more. SOLUTION: Where the thickness of a letter is same as or a little thicker than a clearance between a letter suction face and a loading table 1, the tip of the letter may be jammed in a part of its entering a little in the carrier direction and some letter may be damaged. When such a latter is deliverred, a delivery belt must be stopped. When such a thick letter is deliverred, a presser force is applied to the end of the loading table 1. A presser force detecting means 9 is provided under the loading table 1 to detect the presser force and, when the presser force detection means 9 detects some extent of the presser force or more, the drive of the feeding belt is stopped. Then, abnormality is displayed on a display means to inform it to an operator.
