The invention relates to the use of DNA sequences, which are capable of complementing a metabolic defect in a plant, as selection markers in plant cells for selecting transformed plants. In addition, recombinant DNA molecules are prepared which contain DNA sequences of this type, whereby said sequences are operatively bound to regulatory sequences of a promoter that is active in the plants, and optionally to transcription-terminations, and/or are operatively bound to polyadenylation signals. The invention also relates to vectors, host cells and kits which contain recombinant DNA molecules of the aforementioned type and to plant cells and plants which are transformed by the recombinant DNA molecules. The invention additionally relates to a method for producing transgenic plants which, due to the introduction of the above-mentioned recombinant DNA molecules, can be selected on selective media. Transgenic plants, plant cells and tissue are disclosed which contain the inventive DNA molecule or which are obtained using the described method. Harvested products and propagation material of the described transgenic plants are additionally disclosed. |
