PURPOSE:To selectively produce the objective alpha-(substituted phenyl)-D- glucopyranoside in a high yield by subjecting alpha-and/or beta-glucose pentaacetate as a starting raw material to a prescribed chemical reaction. CONSTITUTION:A method for producing the tetraacetyl-alpha-(substituted phenyl)-D- glucopyranoside derivative is characterized by reacting glucose pentaacetate with a substituted phenol compound in the presence of a stannic chloride in a halogenated hydrocarbon solvent. The objective alpha-(2-chloro-4-nitrophenyl)-D- glucopyranoside, alpha-(4-nitrophenyl)-D-glucopyranoside, etc., can selectively and profitably be produced in a high yield. |
