PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To start a compressor stably at all times by performing open-phase operation of a motor element for a preset time when an operating switch is turned on in order to heat an oil sump space and then controlling start operation of the compressor. SOLUTION: When power is turned on by turning the operating switch 140 of a heat pump type refrigerating machine, a 2C relay 71 for open-phase operation is turned on for a preset time under control of a control circuit 50 to conduct single phase power through the two-phase winding in each coil winding provided in the three-phase motor 13 of a compressor 1. Under that state, the three-phase motor 13 is not rotated but the coil winding is simply heated by single phase conduction and liquid refrigerant standing in an oil sump space 10 is heated. The heated liquid refrigerant evaporates in the compressor 1 and moves to a low temperature accumulator 20, indoor and outdoor heat exchangers 3, 4, and the like. Only such a quantity of liquid refrigerant as causing no trouble in the starting operation of the compressor 1 is left in the compressor 1.
