PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL element capable of being driven by a low voltage and proving stable luminescence for a long time. SOLUTION: In this EL element, at least, either of a first insulator layer 13 and a second insulator layer 15, contains barium titanate, as main constituent, and magnesium oxide, manganese oxide, yttrium oxide, at least one kind selected from barium oxide and calcium oxide, and silicon dioxide, as sub- constituent. When barium titanate is calculated in terms of BaTiO3, magnesium oxide in terms of MgO, manganese oxide in terms of MnO, yttrium oxide in terms of Y2O3, barium oxide in terms of BaO, calcium oxide in terms of CaO, and silicon dioxide in terms of SiO2, their ratios to BaTiO3 of 100 mols are 0.1 to 3 mols for MgO, 0.05 to 1.0 mols for MnO, 1 mol or less for Y2O3, 2 to 12 mols for BaO+CaO, and 2 to 12 mols for SiO2. |
