The method involves the digital signal being transformed into two frequency bands. The signal is divided (E1,E18) into first blocks of a predetermined number of samples, which are transformed (E4) into second blocks (LL) at low frequency and a third block (LH,HL,HH) at high frequency. If the second blocks are not at too low resolution, they are stored (E10) to form a fourth set of blocks, which are processed as the first blocks in the cycle. Independent claims are included for a coding method, a transformation device, a coding device, and a digital device including a mechanism for executing the method.
