PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion conductor stably usable in a dry gas and atmosphere without using a humidifying device and a special mechanism, capable of simplifying and miniaturizing a system, cutting down a cost and sufficiently moving moisture produced in an ion conducting part while enhancing ion conductivity by sufficiently securing a region where an electrolyte effectively functions, and to provide a reliable manufacturing method for it and a fuel cell using the ion conductor. SOLUTION: This fuel cell has a proton conducting part 1 to conduct a proton from a hydrogen electrode side to an oxygen electrode side and a moisture circulating part 2 with an elliptical or circular cross section of a water absorptive high polymer particulate material which is embedded in the proton conducting part 1, and has a region where the cross section of the moisture circulating part 2 in parallel with the proton conducting direction 5 or its reverse direction is bigger at an intermediate part 2c than those at a part 2a on the hydrogen electrode side and a part 2b on the oxygen electrode side as in the case of a circular or elliptical shape. |
