PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain improvement in delivery to a processing station and in quick, simple and efficient utilization of image data by imagewise exposing a discoid heat developable photographic film and developing it by heating with a heat block having a circular surface whose diameter is equal to or larger than that of the discoid film. SOLUTION: A heat block 30 is brought into contact with the surface of an exposed photographic film 10 or pressed against the film 10 to develop the discoid photographic film 10 by heating. The heat block 30 that is moved up and down is moved down to transfer heat to the top of the photographic film 10 put on a support 20. The diameter of the circular surface of the heat block 30 is equal to or larger than that of the photographic film 10 and the preferred diameter is 60-180 mm, in particular 60-120 mm. When the diameter of the circular surface of the heat block 30 is smaller than that of the photographic film 10, unevenness in heat development is liable to occur.
