PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a function of surely obtaining a still picture in a desired shutter timing with a simple operation without wasting the capacity of a recording medium in the case of making consecutive shots with an electronic camera having a consecutive shot function. SOLUTION: A CPU 20 of the electronic camera having a consecutive shot function uses a consecutive shot management table 25A to manage each storage area of a buffer memory 22. The CPU 20 protects still picture data stored in a storage area by inhibiting overwriting of data onto the storage area of the buffer memory designated in response to an operation of a still picture release switch 21B in the case of conducting consecutive shots.
