摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the optical output of a light emitting device. SOLUTION: In this light emitting device wherein electrodes 3, 4, transparent dielectric layers 5, 6 and phosphor layers 7, 8 are formed on the surfaces of two glass substrates 1, 2 facing to each other, respectively, and the electrode on the side of one of the glass substrates is formed into a transparent electrode so that discharge light emission output can be extracted from it, the scattering coefficient of the phosphor of the phosphor layer 7 on the glass substrate 1 side for extracting the discharge light emission output is set to 0.05-0.2 cm2/mg, and the scattering coefficient of the phosphor layer 8 on the glass substrate 2 side is set to: (1) 0.1-0.5 cm2/mg when there is a base or electrode having a reflection factor of 0.7 or more or (2) 0.3-0.6 cm2/mg when there is no base nor electrode having a high reflection factor.
