PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spin bulb thin film magnetic element which is superior in stability to satisfactorily control the magnetic domain of a free magnetic layer. SOLUTION: A spin bulb type thin film magnetic element 1 is provided with a laminated body 10 consisting of a free magnetic layer 12, a nonmagnetic conductive layer 13, and a fixed magnetic layer 14, bias layers 16 which are placed on both sides of the laminated body 10 and aligns the direction of magnetization of the free magnetic layer 12, an anti-ferromagnetic layer 18 which fixes the direction of magnetization of the fixed magnetic layer 14 by an exchange coupling magnetic field, and a pair of conductive layers 20 which give a detection current to the free magnetic layer 12. The bias layers 16 are provided on a substrate 7 and are placed in the same hierarchy as the laminated body 10, and the anti-ferromagnetic layer 18 is so laminated that it may be brought into contact with at least a part of bias layers and the laminated body 10.
