MANUFACTURE OF SILICONE RESIN-COATED OPTICAL FIBER, AND DEVICE THEREFOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect an abnormal portion in a coating shape as a product to manufacture a reliable silicone resin-coated optical fiber, in a drawing process. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method has a process for heating an optical fiber base material to be drawn into an optical fiber, a process for cooling the fiber, a process for coating the cooled optical fiber with a silicone resin, and a process for heating the silicone resin coated on the fiber to be cured. The method is provided also with a process for detecting an abnormal portion in a coating shape of the coated silicone resin coated on the optical fiber in the condition that a surface temperature of the coated silicone resin is about 70 deg.C or less, after the coated silicone resin is heated to be cured.
