PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce possible damages only to a level of partial damages by keeping any impact from being transmitted to the apparatus as a whole even when a measuring element provided at the tip part of a measuring jaw hits work owing to a trouble such as the breakage of a cutting tool or a malfunctioning of an air cylinder for oscillating the measuring element. SOLUTION: In an automatic-sizing head H, which is equipped with a pair of measuring jaws 20 rockably installed in a case body 23, an air cylinder 40 to open or close the measuring jaw 20 and a detector 30 to output a measured value based on changes in the position of the measuring jaw 20 when the measuring element 22 mounted at the tip part of the measuring jaw 20 is brought into contact with work 21, the measuring element 22 is provided with a notch part 39 to allow the breaking of the tip part 22a of the measuring element 22 when an impact is applied to the measuring element 22 exceeding a specified level.
