摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a garnet ferrite-base magneto-optical recording medium having high resolution and high recording density as well as excellent S/N and C/N and a magneto-optical information recording and reproducing device adequate for information recording or reproducing of such recording medium together therewith. SOLUTION: The wavelength of light for writing information to the magneto- optical recording medium 11 and the wavelength of light for reading out the information are varied. The magneto-optical recording medium 11 is the magneto-optical recording medium having a recording layer and a reflection layer on a substrate. The recording layer preferably has a layer structure laminated with a hematite layer and a garnet ferrite layer or a layer structure having the garnet ferrite layer existing on the surface of any of the spinel ferrite layer formed only in the track portions for recording the information, the rutile type oxide layer or the hematite layer.
