PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more accurately detect the front overhangs of vehicles passing through a vehicle passing path regardless of the types of the vehicles and the diameters or air pressures of the tires of the vehicles without receiving any influence from the speed variation of the vehicles. SOLUTION: A device for detecting front overhang of vehicle finds the timing at which the wheel HE of a vehicle CR is positioned immediately above a pressure sensor 1 from the time required until the wheel HE starts to step on the pressure sensor 1 after a vehicle sensor 2 detects the vehicle CR and the time required until the wheel HE passes over the sensor 1. When a front overhang detecting sensor 3 detects the front end section FT of the vehicle CR at the timing, it is discriminated that the front overhang of the vehicle CR is off standards and, when the sensor 3 does not detect the section FT, it is discriminated that the front overhang meets standard requirements.
