PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrict cost increase and at the same time of effectively restrict a problem that a recording medium is soiled with toner by providing a transfer guide, situated opposite the surface of an image carrier, with a sheet member having high surface resistance. SOLUTION: A sheet member 48 made of a material whose surface resistance is high is stuck to the surface of a transfer guide 47. In the case, it is preferable to set the length of the sheet member 48 in the direction of the width of a recording medium so that the recording medium P of the maximum width passing through the transfer guide 47 can contact the sheet member 48 over the full width of it. Because the recording medium P guided to a transfer area 41 does not about on the transfer guide 47 directly but abuts on the sheet member 48, and furthermore the surface resistance of the sheet member 48 is set high, the sheet member 48 is not frictionally electrified by the contact with the recording medium P or the electrification is restricted. This makes it possible to hinder electrical transfer of toner on an intermediate transfer body 15 to the sheet member 48 resulting in a large amount of the toner sticking thereto, and prevents a problem that the recording medium P is soiled with the toner.
