PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for reproducing gradation and an electronic storage medium, with which a smooth gradation can be provided. SOLUTION: The gradation expressing method for an image display or print device is composed of a step for defining the combination or single or a plurality of dots as one unit and measuring lightness, when these pixel units are arranged at least and a step for controlling gradation characteristics so that the lightness of the pixel units changes smoothly using a look-up table, a function expression or a combination thereof.
