PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely specify the classification of plural kinds of slips by recognizing the features of the shapes of the slips by plural methods even at the time of character recognizing the plural kinds of slips by slip formats corresponding to the classification at once. SOLUTION: A CPU 1 recognizes the shapes of slip images read by an image scanner 7 for each kind based on preliminarily decided plural kinds of shape recognizing methods(slip size classification, corner cut classification, and hole classification), and decides the classification of the slips according to the combination of each recognized result. Then, the CPU 1 character-recognizes the slip images based on slip formats corresponding to the decided classification.
