PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect two parameters of polarization mode dispersion at high speed even when a signal is distorted extremely by removing modulation of transmission data from an optoelectronic input signal and including only the action information of dispersion effect to the signal. SOLUTION: A signal branch χ2(t) of an input signal 1 divided into two is integrated with a delay element 6 to produce a signal χ2(t-τ) which is inputted to a multiplier 7 along with one input signal χ1(t). The multiplier 7 couples the signal χ1(t) with the signal χ2(t-τ) for each case and delivers the coupled signal to one low-pass filter 8. Output signal from the low-pass filter 8 can be used in subsequent processing. The signal χ2(t) being fed to a delay chain is generated from an input signal or generated in an optical receiver after filtering. The signal δ1(t) generated from a transmission signal χ0(at) and distorted through polarization mode dispersion is repaired through primary approximation. Consequently, two parameters of polarization mode dispersion can be measured directly. |
