<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent number of repetition times in turbo decoding from being increased and to enhance the decoding characteristic of the titles decoder. SOLUTION: At a transmitter side, a multiplexer MUX multiplexes a plurality of media information sets 1, 2,..., n to generate a multiplex packet consisting of a payload, a header and a synchronizing word SYNC, the packet is assembled into frames, a turbo encoder T-ENC encodes the frames and the coded frames are transmitted to a communication line. A turbo decoder T-DEC having 1st and 2nd decoders DEC1, DEC2 applies repetitive decoding to a signal sent from the transmitter side, and outputs decoded information to a demultiplexer DMUX. A repetitive control section discriminates whether or not detection of a synchronous word and recovery of header information by a SYNC detector DETs and a header use communication path decoder DECh are successful so as to control repetition of turbo decoding depending on the result, Furthermore, in the case of repetitive turbo decoding, succeeding decoding uses external likelihood with respect to a check signal stream to enhance the decoding characteristic.</p> |
