PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and a system for editing and reproducing multimedia data by which no deterioration is caused in a moving picture and original moving picture data can be reproduced even when compressed moving picture data are edited and the edit time can be decreased and to obtain a recording medium for the multimedia data. SOLUTION: A recording medium records original data 1A, visual effect data 1B providing a visual effect synchronously with the reproduction of the original data, and reproduction information 19 instructing composite of the data 1A, 1B. The visual effect data 1B are composited with the original data 1A expanded according to the reproduction information 19 recorded on the recording medium and the composited data are displayed so as to provide a visual effect to an irreversibly compressed moving picture without deteriorating its quality.
