PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner and a multi-beam optical scanner capable of securing necessary light quantity of deflected luminous flux with which a surface to be scanned is scanned and also capable of making an entire device compact. SOLUTION: As to the optical scanner having an incident optical system 11 making the luminous flux emitted from a light source means 1 incident on a deflecting means in a condition where the width of the luminous flux is larger than that of the deflecting surface of the deflecting means 5 in a main scanning direction, an image forming optical system 7 forming the image of the luminous flux deflected by the means 5 on the surface 8 to be scanned; a luminous flux enlarging optical system 9 enlarging the diameter of the incident luminous flux is included in! an optical path between the means 1 and 5, and the means 9 enlarges the diameter of the incident luminous flux at least in the main scanning direction.
