PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove influence of coexisting gas, such as NO or the like, included in gas to be detected, and to improve selectively detection sensitivity relative to carbon monoxide, in a gas sensor having a p-type metal oxide semiconductor mainly composed of copper oxide as a detecting element. SOLUTION: Sodium sulfate is added to a composition of a ptype metal oxide semiconductor 11 as a sodium compound. An addition rate of sodium sulfate is preferably 0.5-20 wt.% relative to copper oxide. And, a compound having one or more constitutive elements selected from B, Mg, Al, Si, P, K, Ca, Ti, V, Zn, Y, Mo, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Nd, Sm, W, Ta, Pt, Au, Pb, Bi, is preferably included as an auxiliary additive other than the sodium compound.
