<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To pick up an image in the neighborhood of a vehicle without hindering the detection of optical flow by expanding a lower part of an image formable range and utilizing the image of the expanded lower part for what is different from the detection of optical flow. SOLUTION: A prism as an mage pickup range expanding means 2 consists of an upper part 2a with uniform thickness and a lower part 2b which becomes thick downward, and the lower part of an area that can be imaged by an image picking up means 1 is expanded. When a backward movement signal s1 is not outputted from a vehicle backward movement detecting means 5, a CPU 4a automatically starts to detect optical flow based on a picked image inputted through the part 2a of the prism 2. Meanwhile, when the signal S1 is outputted, the CPU 4a shows an image in the neighborhood of the vehicle alone which is picked up by the means 1 through the part 2b of the prism on a displaying part 6a.</p> |
