PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable telephone set capable of changing incoming sound volume when an incoming call is received before and after a user recognizes it. SOLUTION: This portable telephone set capable of detecting a sound (rustling sound) generated when a user tries to take it out of a bag, etc., to change incoming sound volume before and after the user recognizes it can be obtained by providing a microphone part 17 monitoring ambient sounds when an incoming call is received, a level detecting part 18 that detects a sound when the user takes the portable telephone set out of the bag, etc., by calculating the level variation of the sound monitored by the part 17 and an incoming sound controlling part 19 lowering incoming volume according to output results of the part 18.
