PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical seal to guarantee the arrangement in which a slide ring and an opposite ring are not rotated with respect to a rotary ring. SOLUTION: A slide ring is coupled with a first rotary ring through a first seal ring, and/or an opposite ring is coupled with a second rotary ring through a second seal ring in a non-rotating sealing manner, and a surface opposite to a sealed medium 9 of the first seal ring 5 is covered by a flange 10 of the first rotary ring 6, and/or a surface opposite to the sealed medium 9 of a second seal ring 7 is covered by a flange 11 of a second rotary ring 8.
