PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit Fourier transform by a signal waveform corresponding to one cycle and to rapidly detect gas. SOLUTION: A sine wave is applied to the heater 6 of a gas sensor 2 and, for example, the signal waveform of the sensor corresponding to one cycle is extended to that corresponding to 4-16 cycles to be subjected to Fourier transform. The obtained Fourier spectrum is inputted to a neutral net to determine a gas kind and the concn. of gas is determined by the multiple regression analysis from the Fourier spectrum to the concn. of gas with respect to the determined gas kind.
