PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To delay the mesh of a parking pole with a parking gear surely and stably, in an automatic transmission. SOLUTION: This automatic transmission(AT) has a parking gear 12a installed on the output shaft of AT, a guide gear 12b, communicated with this gear 12a, whose tooth is formed by off-setting against the tooth position formed on the gear 12a, a parking pole 13, a guide pole 17 material and a parking rod 16 for displacing these poles 13,17. The parking pole 13 has a projection meshed with the gear 12a and can be moved so as to mesh with the gear 12a. While, the guide pole 17 has a projection meshed with the guide gear 12b and can be moved so as to mesh with this gear 12b. The parking rod 16 moving at the shift time to a parking range displaces the parking pole 13 to the gear 12a direction, after the guide pole 17 is displaced so as to mesh with the gear 12b by its cam 16b.
